Description & Project Overview
Queensland Rail is undertaking the Mayne Yard Electric Locomotive Provisioning (ELP) Sheds Fire Systems Upgrade at Mayne Yard, Bowen Hills. The ELP Sheds form part of Queensland Rail’s major maintenance and stabling facility, which operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week and supports rail operations across the Southeast Queensland network. The project involves upgrading the existing fire protection systems across the seven ELP buildings, comprising L, M, N, O, O1, P and Q Blocks. The works include replacement and upgrade of dry fire detection and alarm systems, emergency warning systems, smoke extraction and associated communications, cabling and infrastructure, together with testing, commissioning and handover. The works are required to be delivered within a live operational rail environment, with Mayne Yard remaining operational during construction. This creates significant staging, access, isolation and operational interface requirements, including coordination with maintenance activities and rail movements. To manage these constraints, the works are structured into Separable Portion 1 (SP1) for development and validation of the delivery methodology, access, staging, isolation requirements, detailed programming and stakeholder coordination, followed by Separable Portion 2 (SP2) (optional) for supply, installation, testing and commissioning of the works.
