Renovation of the schoolyard of the St. Johann elementary school in the town of Konz The St. Johann elementary school was selected to participate in the “Starting Opportunities Program” run by the federal and state governments. This program is intended to sustainably improve the performance of the education system in Germany, to increase educational and equal opportunities and to further break down the strong connection between social background and educational success. In order to properly address this program, 200 schools in Rhineland-Palatinate, including the St. Johann elementary school, were selected, which have a high proportion of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. The StartChances program has a term of 10 years (2024 to 2034) and is based on three pillars: Pillar I: Investment program for structural measures, 70% financing, total funds for St. Johann Pillar II: Opportunity budget for needs-based solutions for school and teaching development, full funding, €15,960.00 per school year Pillar III: Personnel to strengthen multi-professional teams, full funding, €78,360.00 per school year. In order to begin implementing the StartChances program, a cooperation agreement was concluded between the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as the education provider and the city of Konz as the school provider. As part of Pillar I, it is intended to redesign the schoolyard attached to the primary school. It is an area of approximately 3,700 m², including the ancillary areas. The exact specifications for the redesign should be made as part of the planning phase in collaboration with the school management, the school authority and the city committees and should correspond to the guidelines of the funding program.
