Contract Description
Preparatory archaeological excavations (VAM) and archaeological construction support (ABB) in the SuedOstLink project, here: individual access no. 11 Preparatory archaeological excavations (VAM) and archaeological construction support (ABB) in the SuedOstLink project, here: individual access no. 11
The number and complexity of the archaeological findings discovered during the excavations could not have been predicted when the contract was concluded. The extensive findings now found from prehistoric epochs as well as the Roman imperial period, the high density of findings of over 400 documented findings in a cluster, and the difficult geological conditions due to colluvial overlays went well beyond the original assumptions. In addition, during the execution of the services it became apparent that the actual findings in several clusters required significantly more effort than originally forecast. The large number and scientific significance of the findings revealed led to a significantly increased need for personnel. To make matters worse, colluvial layers had been deposited over older settlement structures, meaning that archaeological findings appeared both above and below these layers. The resulting processing in several plana as well as the very good preservation of the finds in some cases and the difficult recovery circumstances made additional excavation, documentation and investigation services necessary. The need for additional investigations in areas that only become accessible after the rents have been removed, particularly in the area of the urn grave cemetery in another cluster, could not be foreseen when the contract was concluded. Based on the current status, it can be assumed that further archaeological findings will have to be uncovered there, the examination of which may trigger the need for additional services. The resulting additional services are solely due to the actual archaeological conditions on site, which could only be determined during the execution. Only the continuation and expansion of archaeological investigation, documentation and excavation services that have already been commissioned is affected. The overall character of the original order remains unchanged. The additional staff hours and the increase in accompanying positions are necessary in order to professionally expose the findings, document them, evaluate them scientifically and create the construction freedom required for construction. Without carrying out these services, the statutory monument and official requirements cannot be met and further construction processes cannot be ensured. For the above-mentioned unforeseen and technical reasons, the excess quantities were awarded to the previously commissioned service provider. It should also be mentioned that, from a technical perspective, the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation has spoken out against having the expansion of the area handled by a new service provider. The additional services are inextricably linked to the services already provided by the archaeological specialist company currently commissioned. The ongoing excavation is based on a uniform documentation, findings and data structure, which is continuously updated during the measure.
