Description & Project Overview
The subject of the order is the conclusion of a publishing contract for the publishing support, production and distribution of the member magazine of the German Museum Culture & Technology (K&T). The magazine Kultur & Technik, which has existed since 1977, views technology as an essential expression of human life. Its mission is to present technology as a component of culture in its diverse interrelationships and effects with other aspects of human activity, not least with natural science. She wants to report, observe and analyze technology in an unbiased manner. She believes that technology is not dispensable and that, despite all the dangers, it is and will remain an important means of solving humanity's problems. The magazine is part of the image of the German Museum. In the current concept, the magazine is published four times a year at the beginning of each quarter with 48 pages (+ 4 pages cover) in the format 29.5 cm x 22.5 cm and generally in the 4c format with picture printing paper. Each issue is dedicated to a specific topic such as “Climate Engineering”, “Fieldwork in Transition” or “Norms and Standards” with 6 to 8 articles each 6 to 8 pages on current research, technical achievements, historical background and current questions about the social consequences of research and technology. The contributions are enriched with high-quality images and typically come from external freelance science journalists, researchers or authors from within the company. Despite high demands on the technical and scientific level of the topic section, great importance is attached to ensuring that the contributions are understandable and interesting for generally interested laypeople. The aim is to present even difficult and complex issues in an appealing, entertaining and clearly understandable way. It is the responsibility of the editorial team to ensure this. It is also important that the contributions establish as close a connection as possible to the Deutsches Museum, its branch museums, exhibitions, collections and research. An editorial advisory board made up of the DM's staff, which meets quarterly, determines the main topics of the next issue together with the publisher (AN) and appoints an employee from the DM who will act as scientific advisor for the respective issue. In addition to this topic section, each issue contains a magazine section (approx. 10 pages) with current articles on and from the Deutsches Museum. The articles in the magazine section come from authors from the Deutsches Museum. With this content, K&T moves in the area of scientific journalism and competes with magazines such as Zeit Wissen or Spektrum, but without having their visibility. Unlike these magazines, K&T deals more with fringe topics that otherwise receive little attention. Some topics are also examined in greater depth. What is also always noteworthy is the reference to the DM, which also serves as proof of the competence and seriousness of the contributions.
