Description & Project Overview

Safe participation in road traffic requires a reliable perception of danger and appropriate behavioral reactions. These abilities are impaired even at low alcohol concentrations, meaning that the risk of accidents increases exponentially as the level of alcoholization increases. While previous scientific research and legal regulations focus primarily on drivers, there are still legal special features for cyclists: absolute inability to drive is only assumed if the blood alcohol concentration is 1.6 ‰, and there is no separate fine for drunk cycling. Against the background of the sharp increase in the use of bicycles and Pedelecs and the associated higher risk of accidents as well as increasing numbers of use and accidents, the question of adapting the legal framework is becoming increasingly important. The aim is to contribute to increasing traffic safety and implementing Vision Zero.
