Contract Description
Supply of a DAS system for seismic monitoring using fibre-optic technology, including installation, integration, commissioning, maintenance and training Supply of a DAS system for seismic monitoring using fibre-optic technology, including installation, integration, commissioning, maintenance and training
The objective is the procurement and operational installation of a high-performance Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) system, including all components required for commissioning, i.e., the interrogator and measurement computer. The system must be capable of detecting seismic waves as strain changes over existing fibre optic cables by means of laser measurements of Rayleigh scattering effects and integrating this data into the existing monitoring network of the Earthquake Service. The interrogator shall be usable for real-time seismic monitoring utilising existing fibre optic infrastructure. The aim is to improve seismological monitoring in Germany by integrating modern fibre-optic technologies (Distributed Acoustic Sensing, DAS) into the existing earthquake monitoring network. The goal is to increase spatial resolution and real-time detection of seismic events, particularly in regions with critical infrastructure (KRITIS). DAS as a technological replacement for conventional seismometers and particularly strong-motion sensors is to be evaluated. The device is to be permanently deployed at the German National Data Centre for the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty (GERESS) following a trial phase at various locations, e.g., to test usability for KRITIS monitoring and in the Upper Rhine Graben to test applicability for monitoring induced seismicity.
