Biogas Zürich AG (BGZAG) operates a fermentation plant at the Zurich-Werdhölzli location with an annual capacity of up to 35,000 tons of input material (biogenic waste), consisting of biowaste (= vegetable garden waste + biogenic kitchen waste), garden waste, commercial food waste and other biogenic waste. When the biogenic waste is recycled in the fermentation plant, in addition to biogas and solid digestate (compost), liquid digestate is also produced. The former is used for fertilization or Plant nutrition on agricultural land. The fermentation solids should be transported by the provider to suitable agricultural operations and distributed professionally on their usable areas.
