The assignment constitutes a contract for carrying out the “Redevelopment of Oosterweeleiland” project, in which the vast majority of the scope will still be developed into an implementation design within a construction team formula. Objective of the project: The Wilmarsdonk and Oosterweel bridges are at the end of their lifespan and need to be replaced. Port of Antwerp-Bruges wants to take this opportunity to, in addition to replacing these bridges, also improve traffic flow and traffic safety on the main axes of Oosterweeleiland. The intention is to implement the transition to smooth and safe road and rail traffic, as well as unhindered passage for inland shipping, in a targeted manner. This assignment consists of a complete reconstruction of all bridge, road and rail infrastructure, including appurtenances of the Oosterweelsteenweg between Noordkasteelbruggen and Vosseschijnstraat and the Wilmarsdonksteenweg between Oosterweelsteenweg and N180. In the north of the project area, a permanent cycle path and temporary diversion road will also be constructed at Thorntonroad to Romeynsweel.
